Add one more milestone to Gunnar Alm’s Polk County baseball career.
Alm recorded his 100th career stolen base during the first inning of Saturday’s 10-9 win over East Henderson at The Bottoms. Alm walked to open the bottom of the first, then immediately stole second to reach triple digits in steals.
According to the North Carolina High School Athletic Association record book, Alm is just the fifth player in state history to reach 100 steals. He added two more steals in the game to reach 102 for his career and move past Asheville’s William Head (2007-2009) for fourth place all-time.

North Mecklenburg’s Ryan Clark set a new state record last season with 115 career steals. The previous record of 109 had stood for 20 years.
Alm finished the game 2-for-2 with three runs scored. His two hits moved him to 108 for his career, just one short of Joel Booker’s career school record.
