Polk County will open the 2021 state 1A baseball playoffs with a home game against North Moore.

The Wolverines (8-6) will host North Moore (8-4) at The Bottoms on Tuesday according to pairings announced Sunday by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association. Game time has been set for 6 p.m.

Polk County finished second this season in the Western Highlands Conference race but placed as the top 1A team, earning an automatic playoff berth. All playoff teams are being seeded this season by random draw, with conference automatic qualifiers drawn and seeded first, then wild cards.

Polk County received the fourth seed in the 1A West bracket.

North Moore finished third in the Yadkin Valley 1A Conference. The Mustangs scored in double figures in seven of their 12 games this season, including a 27-1 rout of North Rowan.

The winner of Tuesday’s playoff opener will advance to a second-round game against Cornerstone Charter or Lincoln Charter. That game is scheduled for Thursday.
