East Rutherford exploded for 10 runs in the third inning and defeated Polk County 19-5 in Thursday’s non-conference baseball game in Bostic.
The Cavaliers’ Zeb Koone hit two home runs and drove in five runs to lead the offensive barrage.
Polk County took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Alex Perry singled home a run and Gavin Waldbillig followed with a two-run double. East Rutherford answered with three runs in the bottom of the first to tie the game at 3-3.

The Cavaliers (17-2) scored four runs in the second inning to take a 7-3 lead, then Polk County pulled within 7-5 in the third when Perry doubled and scored on an error and Zalen McCraw drove in another run with a single.
East Rutherford put the game away with 10 runs in the bottom of the third. Koone hit a three-run home run as part of the rally, then added a two-run homer in the fourth inning.
Perry led Polk County at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two runs and two doubles. Waldbillig finished 2-for-2 with two RBI and a double while Aaron Jackson and McCraw each went 1-for-3.
Polk County (12-7) travels to Avery on Tuesday for a Western Highlands Conference game.
