Wolverines top Mountain Heritage, earn share of WHC title

Polk County earned its 11th straight win, defeating Mountain Heritage 25-16, 25-18, 25-15 in a conference match in Burnsville.

Thanks to a bit of help, Polk County is now one win away from an undisputed Western Highlands Conference volleyball championship.

The Wolverines earned their 11th straight win on Tuesday, defeating Mountain Heritage 25-16, 25-18, 25-15 in a WHC match in Burnsville.

Meanwhile, in Swannanoa, Madison upset Owen 3-2, dropping the Warhorses a game behind Polk County in the conference standings.

The Owen loss assures Polk County (14-7, 8-1) of no worse than a share of the WHC regular-season title. Polk County hosts Madison on Thursday and can clinch sole possession of the conference crown with a victory.

Mountain Heritage dropped to 6-11, 5-3.

Grace Lauer had 11 kills and Mireya Roman had 10 kills in Tuesday’s win. Sydney Waldman had 32 assists and 12 digs while Ansley Lynch had 17 digs and Kristen Hall had 14 digs for Polk County.
