Polk County’s girls soccer team will begin state playoff action on Thursday, the first of two days of postseason games at Polk County High School.
The Wolverines will host South Davidson on Thursday at 6 p.m. in the second round of the state 1A playoffs. South Davidson (13-4-1) defeated Mitchell 2-1 in Wednesday’s first-round action.
Polk County’s baseball and softball teams will make their playoff debut on Friday. The Wolverine softball squad will see a familiar foe as South Stokes visits for a second-round game, tentatively set for 5 p.m.
The Lady Sauras (2-19) upset Pine Lake Prep 7-5 in Wednesday’s first round. South Stokes defeated Polk County 9-1 last season in the second round of the state 2A playoffs and also played at Polk County in 2015.
Polk County’s baseball team will look for its first playoff win since 2011 when North Stokes visits after earning a 7-0 win over Highland Tech in first-round action. North Stokes enters with a 17-9 record, having matched a school record for wins this season, while Polk County will look for its first playoff win since 2012 and the first 20-win season in school history.
Game time for the baseball matchup is set for 6 p.m. at The Bottoms.
