Wolverines score often, early in blanking Avery

Polk County freshman Ava Marino had a goal and assist in Monday's win.

Polk County built a 6-0 halftime lead Monday and went on to defeat Avery by that score in a Western Highlands Conference girls soccer match in Newland.

The Wolverines (5-2, 3-0) scored all six goals in a 24-minute span in earning the road win.

Lauren Ketwitz scored 11 minutes into the half on a feed from Ava Marino, then closed the scoring on a goal assisted by Mireya Roman. Ketwitz also assisted on a Marino goal, with Reese Alley, Baylee Love and Rhian Alley all scoring as well. Roman had a second assist on Love’s goal.

The Wolverines return home on Wednesday, hosting Shelby at 6 p.m. in a non-conference clash set for G.M. Tennant Stadium.
