Polk County built a 5-0 halftime lead and went on to post a 5-1 victory Monday over Mountain Heritage in a Western Highlands Conference girls soccer match in Burnsville.
The Wolverines had little trouble in improving to 4-1 overall, 2-0 in WHC play. Polk County scored three goals in the first 20 minutes, took the large halftime lead and emptied the bench in the final 40 minutes.
“Happy to be able to get everybody that came some time on the field,” said Polk County head coach Lennox Charles. “It was a conference game, so always happy to have a conference win.”
Freshman Ava Marino opened the scoring just eight minutes into the game, scoring on a feed from Reese Alley. Rhian Alley and Reese Alley each then scored in the 20th minute, some 15 seconds apart, to give the Wolverines a 3-0 lead.
Freshmen Sydney Waldman and Mireya Roman then added goals in the final 15 minutes to boost Polk to its halftime edge.
The Wolverines outshot Mountain Heritage (0-2, 0-2) 22-2.
Polk County is slated to be back on the road Wednesday, traveling to Mitchell for another WHC clash.
