Vining to lend expertise to Polk boys basketball camp

Legendary Georgia basketball coach and Tryon native Seth Vining will return to the area next week to take part in the youth boys basketball camp planned for Polk County High School.

Vining will be on hand for the June 27-29 camp at PCHS, taking part in the camp from 1-5 p.m. each day. Two sessions of the camp will be held each day, with students in grades 1-5 attending from 1-3:30 p.m. and students in grades 6-8 (rising ninth graders) attending from 4-6:30 p.m.

Cost of the camp is $50, which includes a T-shirt and instruction.

Vining will be on hand to teach the fundamental basics of shooting a basketball. He retired after coaching both high school and junior college basketball for 38 years in northern Georgia.

During his coaching career, Vining had a record of 745 wins and 295 losses. Four of his teams were state champions, twice with high school girls teams and twice with high school boys teams. During his high school coaching career, he was in the Georgia Final Four 10 different times. In addition to his four state championships, Vining had three teams that were state runners-up. In 2006 he was honored by being inducted into the Northeast Georgia Sports Hall of Fame.
