Roundup: PCHS tennis team falls; Kropp helps leads GTCC to win

Kings Mountain earned a 6-2 win Wednesday over Polk County in a non-conference boys tennis match in Kings Mountain.

Kings Mountain took a 4-2 lead after singles play, with Payton Stott (10-5) and Malik Miller (10-1) earning the singles wins for the Wolverines.

The Mountaineers then won the first two doubles matches of the day to clinch the win. The No. 3 doubles match was not played.

Polk County will host Owen on Thursday for a Western Highlands Conference match.

KROPP LEADS GTCC TO WIN: Hayley Kropp scored 20 points Wednesday to help lead Guilford Technical Community College to a 73-61 win over Macomb Community College in the consolation bracket of the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II Women’s Championship.

Kropp scored 11 points in the fourth quarter, seven of those in a key 10-3 run early in the period that gave GTCC a lead it would never relinquish.

Teammate Latoya Cuthrell had 21 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Lady Titans, who will continue play on Friday at noon against either Moraine Valley or Lackawanna.
