Region 8 racks up memories during State Games appearance

Region 8 didn’t bring back a victory from last week’s Powerade State Games, but did create a lot of memories during the two-day event.

Led by Polk County head coach Jamie Thompson, the Region 8 softball squad, comprised of players from throughout Western North Carolina, finished 0-3 during pool play in the event held in Greensboro, then suffered a tough 4-3 loss to Region 3 in bracket play.

Joining Thompson were Polk County players Morgan Stott, Alana Jergenson and Anna McFadden.

The teams from Region 1, representing the northeastern part of the state, and Region 6, representing the Charlotte area, wound up sharing gold medals after thunderstorms wiped out the gold medal game.
