R-S Central hands Wolverine girls a road setback

R-S Central handed Polk County a 54-42 setback Wednesday night in a non-conference girls basketball clash in Rutherfordton.

The Hilltoppers (4-3) were led by Aliyah Whiteside’s 17 points in defeating Polk County for the second time this season.

Autumn Owen had 18 points and five rebounds to lead the Wolverines (1-4), with Ansley Lynch adding 15 points and three rebounds. Kristen Hall had three points and six rebounds, with Mariah Overholt, Sara Muse and Julia Griffin each scoring two.

Polk County returns home Friday to face East Henderson in a 6:30 p.m. clash. There will be a JV girls game on Friday – the last two opponents have not had JV girls teams – at 4 p.m.
