Polk County rallied from an early 3-0 deficit and pulled away Wednesday to hand Mountain Heritage a 12-3 defeat in Western Highlands Conference softball action at Polk.
The win enabled the Wolverines to end their regular season with a 14-6 record, including an 11-4 finish in conference play. Polk County finished second in the WHC and will learn its first-round playoff opponent on Monday. The Wolverines will be the top 1A seed from the conference.
After giving up three runs in the first inning, Polk fought back and evened the game at 3-3 in the fourth, added a run in the fifth to take the lead, then exploded for eight runs in the bottom of the sixth to put the game out of reach.
Autumn Owen finished 3-for-3 with two RBI and a home run. Ansley Lynch was 2-for-3 with two RBI and Allie Thompson, Anna McFadden, Haley Fowler, Morgan Stott and Alana Jergenson all added hits.
McFadden earned the win, allowing four hits and striking out three in pitching a complete game.
