Polk County Middle’s volleyball team handled its latest opponent quickly and efficiently.
The Wolverines needed less than an hour Monday to dispatch Bethel Middle, handing the Blue Demons a 2-0 defeat in a Blue Ridge Middle School Conference home match.
Polk Middle (6-1) posted a 25-6, 25-12 victory, its strong serving game too much for Bethel Middle (2-5) to handle.
The Wolverines scored the first nine points of the match on the strength of Marilyn Castillo’s serving and never trailed again. Emmie McDowell helped extend that lead to 14-2 and Polk easily claimed the first set.
The second set proved a bit tighter, and Bethel trailed by just six, 18-12, before the Wolverines scored the final seven points of the match.
“We didn’t know what to expect, since this was one of those cross-division games,” said Polk Middle head coach Matthew Russell. Polk Middle is in the BRMSC’s East Division while Bethel is in the West. “I’m glad to see the girls come out and take care of business.
“We called some different serving spots for the girls, and they really responded well. Marissa Twitty served well and Rollins Carter did a good job serving.”
Polk Middle is back in action on Wednesday, hosting Brevard Middle at 4:30 p.m.
