Polk County Middle earned its first victory of the season on Thursday, downing Apple Valley 44-34 in Blue Ridge Middle School Conference action in Hendersonville.
The Wolverines (1-3) scored a pair of late touchdowns to claim the win in their second game of the week. Polk County Middle also played on Monday, dropping a tough 22-14 decision to Brevard Middle.
We finally got the monkey off of our back,” said Polk Middle head coach Billy Alm. “The offense was a well oiled machine (Thursday) led by quarterback Avery Edwards. They worked as a team all game and never laid down or quit.
“Our defense stepped up in the fourth quarter and played how we expect them to play every game. It was a great team win. Now we need to focus on our next opponent and keep this intensity going into next game.”
Polk County continues its three-game road trip next Thursday, visiting Flat Rock Middle for a 5 p.m. game.
