Polk Middle boys blank Rugby for second straight shutout win

Polk County Middle’s boys soccer team earned its second straight shutout win on Wednesday, blanking Rugby 3-0 in a Blue Ridge Conference match at Polk.

The Wolverines, who shut out Brevard Middle 4-0 on Monday, improved to 4-4-1 with the victory.

Jack Smith, Topher Pearson and Carson Metcalf scored goals for Polk Middle, with Cole Perierra, Evan Jones and Smith recording assists.

Monday’s win at Brevard featured two goals by Jones, with Alexis Gonzales and Smith adding goals. Jones also had two assists and Metcalf added one.

“These were two important games for us to win and the boys did a good job of adjusting to the conditions they had to face,” said Polk Middle head coach Lennox Charles.

Polk Middle returns home on Monday to host Apple Valley at 4:30 p.m.
