Polk JV baseball reaches break with 5-2 record

Polk County’s junior varsity baseball squad has raced to a 5-2 start to open a season plagued by weather and other oddities resulting in game postponements.
The Wolverines, for example, were only able to play 1 1/3 innings at Avery because the Vikings began the game with just nine players and two were injured in the first two innings, resulting in the game being stopped.
Here is an update on recent Polk County JV play:
Polk County 5, Mitchell 2
Jordan Bishop tossed a complete game, allowing three hits and striking out seven.
Offensively, Jordan Searcy led Polk, going 2-for-2 with two RBI and a run, with Isaac Edwards going 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run and Grant Wooten finishing 2-for-3.
Madison 13, Polk County 12
The Patriots handed the Wolverines their first loss of the year in a wild Western Highlands Conference game in Marshall.
Bishop had a double and four RBI while going 3-for-3, with Jordan Searcy adding a 2-for-3 effort with two RBI and Jonothan Edwards driving in two runs and finishing 1-for-3.
Polk County 7, Owen 4
Bishop earned the win, throwing four innings and allowing five hite while striking out four. Shane Parris pitched two scoreless innings with three strikeouts to record the save.
At the plate, Bishop was 3-for-3 with a double, triple and two RBI. Isaac Edwards finished 2-for-4 with two RBI while Bryson Edwards was also 2-for-4 and scored twice. Kaleb Johnson added an RBI double.
Polk County at Avery
In the postponed Avery matchup, the Wolverines led 6-0 when play was stopped.
Isaac Edwards had already notched two hits, including a double and RBI, with Bryson Edwards adding a double, Bishop adding a double and RBI and Searcy adding two RBI and a double.
West Henderson 10, Polk County 0
The Falcons handed Polk its second loss of the season, winning in five innings in Mills River.
Searcy finished 1-for-2 for the Wolverines while Parris struck out two and gave up seven hits and five earned runs in five innings.
