PCHS roundup: Wolverine tennis, softball teams earn road wins
Polk County rolled to a 9-0 victory Thursday over Avery in a Western Highlands Conference boys tennis match in Newland.
The Wolverines improved to 10-2 overall, 3-1 in WHC play with the win. Polk County is slated to travel Monday to face R-S Central.

SOFTBALL: Polk County romped to an easy win Friday at Mitchell, posting an 18-o win over the Mountaineers in a Western Highlands Conference game.
The win extended Polk County’s victory streak to seven games. The Wolverines are now 11-4 overall, 8-2 in conference play. Mitchell dropped to 1-9, 0-8. The two teams
Polk built a 5-0 lead after three innings, added three more in the fourth and exploded for 10 runs in the sixth.
Maranda Gosnell finished 3-for-5 with four RBI to lead Polk County, with Hannah Emory adding a 3-for-4 effort. Karli Wood finished 2-for-5 with two RBI and Autumn Owen was 2-for-5 with an RBI and four runs. Ansley Lynch was 2-for-5 and Morgan Stott was 2-for-3. Hannah Jenne added a two-run single.
Haley Fowler allowed six hits and struck out three in earning the win.
The Polk County junior varsity earned a 20-3 win.
GIRLS SOCCER: Polk County dropped a 2-1 decision Friday at West Henderson in a non-conference match.
The loss dropped the Wolverines to 6-6 overall. West Henderson improved to 6-6-3.
West Henderson earned a 2-0 win in junior varsity play.
