St. Louis Community College spoiled the national title hopes of Hayley Kropp and her Guilford Technical Community College teammates on Tuesday, handing the Lady Titans a 74-59 defeat in the opening round of the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II Women’s Basketball Championship in Harrison, Ark.
The Archers raced to a 24-9 lead at the end of the first period and never trailed, shooting 54% from the field in the game. Chrishana Wilson had 28 points and 13 rebounds to lead St. Louis.
Kropp, the former Polk County standout, led GTCC with 12 points as the Lady Titans struggled from the field, shooting 29% for the game.
Though they can no longer advance to the championship game, the tournament is not over for GTCC. The Lady Titans will begin consolation bracket play on Wednesday, facing Macomb Community College at 4 p.m.
