JV roundup: Polk girls top Landrum, Wolverine boys fall

Polk County held off Landrum to earn a 28-25 victory Friday night in junior varsity girls basketball action at Polk County.

The Wolverines secured the narrow win in a physical battle to improve to 2-0 on the season.

Alana Jergenson and Marissa Twitty each scored six to lead Polk County, with Savannah Parris scoring five. Anna McFadden added four points, with Emmie McDowell, Amy Chupp and Makayla Staley each scoring two and Emily Prince adding one.

“The girls definitely deserved the win and worked hard the entire game,” said Polk County head coach Amber Thompson. “Their perseverance is what brought us the victory.”

McKenzie Suddeth had a game-high eight points to lead Landrum.

POLK JV BOYS FALL: Landrum pulled away for a 53-26 victory over Polk County in junior varsity boys action.

Keyandre Thomas led the Wolverines (0-3) with seven points, with Wesley Royster adding six. Kiyon Staley, Tyler Staley and Shane Parris each scored four points, with Ben Hardin adding one.

Polk County’s JV boys will be in action again Tuesday at home, facing Highland Tech. The school does not have a JV girls team.
