College roundup: Suddeth brings home trio of top-10s in final SAC Championship

Former Polk County standout JC Suddeth competed in his final South Atlantic Conference Track and Field Championship on Saturday and Sunday in Charlotte.

The Wingate senior notched three top-10 finishes, placing seventh in shot put with a personal-best throw of 44-9 1/2 and eighth in discus (126-0) and hammer throw (130-0). He also placed 21st in the javelin (107-5).

Wingate placed second in the team standings, just behind winner Queens.

LEES-MCRAE TRACK: Bobcat senior Matthew Darden placed ninth in the long jump at the Catamount Classic on April 13.

Darden has been competing in the 100 and 200-meter runs as well as the 4×100 and 4×400-meter relays this spring.

MONTREAT TRACK: Eli Hall placed third in the Catamount Classic in the 800-meter run, posting a time of 2:03.48 for Montreat.

Hall has also took part in the 1500 meters, 400 meters and 4×400-meter relay for the Cavaliers.

Freshman Troy Lieberman notched his best pole vault of the spring earlier with a mark of 13-7 1/2 at the Montreat Invitational.

GARDNER-WEBB TRACK: Mitchell Brown posted a time of spring-best time of 4:15.95 in the 1500-meter run at the 49er Classic in March.

Brown also placed 15th in the event at the 2-18 Charlotte Invitational in mid-April with a time of 4:17.20.

Brown has also completed in the 5000 meters this spring for the Bulldogs.

APPALACHIAN STATE TRACK: Sean Doyle posted a personal-best time of 1:55.99 in the 800 meters at the recent Duke Invitational.

Doyle has also been part of the Mountaineers’ 4×800-meter relay team.

WITTENBERG TENNIS: Alivia Livesay has posted a 4-6 record this spring in singles play for Wittenberg.

Livesay, who also has a pair of doubles wins, has played matches at No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles for the Tigers, who have a 3-8 record this spring.

BREVARD BASEBALL: J.D. Edwards tripled in one of his three at-bats thus far this spring for Brevard.
