Polk County’s Dustin Calvert won his first two matches Friday at the 2A West Regional wrestling tournament at West Lincoln High School, leading the Wolverine contingent at the tourney.
With the victories, Calvert moved into Saturday’s championship semifinals, where he will wrestle top seed Lathan Kee of Shelby. Kee brings a 49-1 record into the match.
Calvert notched a 17-4 major decision over Bunker Hill’s Trequan Robinson to open the tourney, then pinned West Caldwell’s Cory Malone in the third period of his quarterfinal match.

106: Triston Watkins received a first-round bye before suffering a first-period pin against East Burke’s Samuel McMonagle. Watkins will wrestle Maiden’s Kevin Vongphachanh in his first consolation match on Saturday.
138: Chase Underwood was pinned in the first period by Maiden’s Joshua Beard. Underwood will wrestle Bunker Hill’s Gabriel Guess in Saturday’s consolation round.
170: Braden Miller suffered a first-period pin against top seed Josh Walker of Newton-Conover. Miller will wrestle Stuart Cramer’s Nick Cook in Saturday’s consolation round.
220: Devin Panchyshyn lost via fall in the second period against Bunker Hill’s Caleb Lonka. Panchyshyn will face Shelby’s Cedric Vinson in Saturday’s consolation round.
HWT: Marquise Lipscomb was pinned in the first period by Lincolton’s Johnny Araya. Lipscomb will face Brevard’s Matthew Ridenour in Saturday’s consolation round.
