All-Area picks: Justice named top track athlete to lead Wolverine selections

Polk County junior Jake Justice earned a state championship medal in the pole vault at the 2A/1A state indoor championships.

A handful of Polk County athletes have earned All-Area recognition as selected by the Times-News in Hendersonville.

Wolverine junior Jake Justice was named the publication’s Boys Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Year. Justice won the state championship in the pole vault, ran a leg on the 4×400-meter relay team that finished fourth at the state meet and also qualified for that meet in the long jump.

The Wolverines placed eight other athletes on the All-Area Indoor Track and Field squad. They included Izzy Jackson, Reagan Waddell, Lauren Ketwitz, Caleb Potter, Jack Derkach, Luke Sellers, Holden Owens and Dillon Overholt.

Polk County also had two basketball players earn All-Area honors, with Autumn Owen chosen for the girls squad and Clark Phipps named to the boys team.
